Serving the deaf & hard-of-hearing |
|
Since 1978, Bethel Baptist Church has been ministering to an often forgotten segment of society: our deaf and hard-of-hearing friends and neighbors. One of Jesus’ special miracles was the healing of a man who could neither hear nor speak. We do not have the power of God like Jesus did to correct people’s physical deficiencies and limitations. However, we do have the empowerment of the Holy Spirit to minister especially to the spiritual needs of the deaf and hard-of-hearing. Our goal is to continually fulfill Isaiah 29:18a: “And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book...” We want the deaf to meet Jesus, Who can meet their every need. Our Deaf Ministry Staff interpret all services and special programs, not just the ones planned exclusively for our deaf. Deaf adults have their own Bible Study Hour Class at 9:30 am on Sunday mornings in the School Lobby. Deaf children have their own programming, while the adults are worshipping at 10:30 am on Sundays in the auditorium. These children meet in Room 140 in the Timothy Christian Education Center. On occasion a separate worship service is scheduled for our deaf and hard-of-hearing. Periodically, American Sign Language classes are offered. Special weekend programs with guest speakers from Silent Word Ministries, the Bill Rice Ranch, etc. are made available as often as possible. Included are meals and activities such as bowling. Occasionally, trips are made to deaf activities elsewhere. Use the following contact for more information: Tom & Joan Vannatta |
