Dear Brothers and Sisters at Bethel,
This last Sunday, April 26 I talked in the morning service about a change and a challenge for us over the upcoming summer. After Wednesday, June 3 we will be suspending our regular Wednesday ministries until September. The reasons I gave for this change are both practical and spiritual.
Practically, as a church, over the next few months we will be facing some changes and transitions regarding our church staff. These changes will result in a reduction in the number of capable and outstanding staff members who care for our facilities on a daily basis. With these changes in staff I am concerned that we not overburden our already overworked staff. In an effort to offer some easing of the burden I have decided that having buildings ready and open for Wednesday nights is something that needed a decision for the summer. With the staff reduction, the transition of the Liberty campus, and regular maintenance I feel the greatest priority for the property during the summer is to prepare the campus for Sundays.
The spiritual challenge I extended to our church for the summer is to plan to practice the “one anothers” of the Bible through investing in others’ lives. This will include intentional planning for getting together with others in our church for spiritual encouragement. I have been very encouraged with the response of so many to this challenge! I believe we are ready for this. The time is now. God has prepared us for this time in our church. In the weeks to come I will be giving further encouragements and suggestions to make this summer spiritually profitable for you as you plan to invest in the lives of others.
The verse I would like to serve as a banner over our summer is Romans 12:10 (ESV) “Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.”
